Church Income Rising, But Still Trails Inflation

Congregations across the U.S. are recovering from difficult financial years with an increase in their annual income, but that has not matched the rise in inflation.

A report from Faith Communities Today found the average church brings in $165,000 each year while spending $160,000. Around 3 in 5 congregations (62%) receive more money than they spend. The average churchgoer gives $2,222 per year.

In 2010, the average church reported $150,000 in income. That fell to $125,000 in 2015 and $120,000 in 2020. Since then, income recovered to $140,000 in 2021 and $165,000 by 2023.
