Israeli Paramedic Saves a Police Officer’s Life by Performing an Emergency Operation

During the horrific attacks in Israel, Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency service organization, has set up emergency evacuation points where the wounded receive first aid and are transferred to hospitals, often in armored ambulances.

Alisa Krant is a paramedic who was on a Mobile ICU unit when a police officer was brought in who was in critical unstable condition. She determined while evacuating the officer in the MICU that an emergency operation on the victim was required to save his life. She performed the operation in the ambulance. This immediate action stabilized him for the transport to the hospital. The officer arrived at the hospital in critical but stable condition where he immediately went into a trauma room.

Alisa Krant, Magen David Adom Paramedic: “It is a spur of the moment decision, which is not always an easy one to make during an urgent evacuation. In that moment, when the patient’s condition stabilized, the team and I were immensely relived. The fact that the patient was intermittently conscious during the treatment allowed us to also offer him emotional support in addition to medical care. I never let go of his hand the whole time, so he wouldn’t feel alone even for one second.”
